OCA Celebrates the Environment!
1. Lag Ba'Omer May 2015 - All elementary students (110 students) in Ohr Chadash celebrated this holiday by going to Patapsco State Park. Children enjoyed water hikes, playing on the all natural playground, having a bonfire, and running around playing tag games. Not only were we celebrating Lag Ba'Omer, but also the environment and what wonderful things it has to offer. The Jewish holiday of Lag Ba'Omer is celebrated because it marked the end of a famous Jewish Rabbi's students' deaths. Rabbi Akiva was said to be "the light of Torah," so it became the custom of Lag B'Omer to celebrate outdoors with nature and bonfires.

3. JNF Tree Project 2/2016- The entire school came together to celebrate the trees by collecting money for JNF and planting trees in Israel. Each child/class who gave money got to write a message on a leaf or fruit and hang it on the tree. The tree was made out of recycled Trader Joe's bags.

5. Grab & Go! April, May , June 2016 - New this year to OCA is something called Grab & Go! Students will be encouraged to grab any garbage they see while playing outside and go immediately to throw it away or recycle it. After being "cooped" inside for a few months, a lot of garbage accrued on the playing fields. Children will keep track of how many "grab & go" trips they made. Children will be encouraged and rewarded for their efforts!
6. Earth Day! April 18, 2016 - OCA will be celebrating Earth Day early this year due to the Passover break.
